  • WINTER ISSUE LAUNCH PARTY

Once again we call on all Yucks and Yums to unite for the WINTER ISSUE launch party!

This year it will be held at WASP studios on the 28th November 7pm, as usual it promises to be a great night.  Man Without Machines and the The Amazing Rolo promise to tantalize you with their electronic wizardry whilst Ben Robinson will be laying down the smooth with his set of esoterica and exotica.  Hope to see you all there!

Remember Remember the 5th of November!!!!

The Winter ‘08 issue of Yuck ‘n Yum will be launched on Friday the
28th of NOV. The deadline for submissions for this issue is Wednesday
    the 05th of November.
Yuck ‘n Yum can be viewed online and/or printed off on your home
printer. The printed image must be black and white, and high contrast
images work best due to differing print qualities. You can submit one
piece for both methods, or you might prefer to produce something
separate for the online version. This can differ slightly from the
printed version, but will complement or reference it – something that
takes advantage of the media it is presented in, such as an audio
project, a short video piece or animation for example. It’s totally up
    to you.
Our funding covers web expenses and the printing of sample
copies. Free paper editions are available at the launch and sent out to various
galleries etc. Yuck ‘n Yum is not run for profit and so work is
    accepted on a voluntary basis.

    AUTUMN ISSUE

THE YUCK ‘N YUM AUTUMN 08 ISSUE IS NEARLY HERE !

Come along to Drouthys on Fri 29th of August at 8pm for a sneak preview.
We will have live performances from All Modes On and Tom The Noisemonger.

All Modes On is the blissfully electro alias of the girl-who-plays-all-instruments…..Expect a lucky bag of melodic trips into the mystery glitter spangled world which is Sarah J Tingle. Her stripped down instrument choice set behind layered masses of musical input will invite you to listen to vocals that can mend a bad day and a nice long gaze, followed by just the right amount of drums.

PLUS resident hipster Ben Robinson and his electro comrade Scott Duncan drenching you in Disco!!!

Don’t fret if you can’t make it the latest issue will be free to download after this weekend!!! Hoora!!

    Open Call August 08

You can now submit work for consideration for future issues of Yuck ‘n Yum to:

    submissions@yucknyum.org

The Autumn ‘08 issue of Yuck ‘n Yum will be launched on Friday the 29th of August.

The deadline for submissions for this issue is Friday the 08th of August.

The distribution idea behind Yuck ‘n Yum is that it can be viewed online and/or printed off on the viewer’s home printer. As a result, the printed image must be black and white, and high contrast images work best due to differing print qualities. You can submit one piece for both methods, or you might prefer to produce something for the online version that differs slightly from the printed version or complements or references it – something which takes advantage of the media it is presented in, such as an audio project, a short video piece, or animation, for example. It’s totally up to you.

Unfortunately, our funds cover web expenses and the production of sample copies available at the launch and sent out to various galleries etc., so we cannot afford to pay you.

    ART FAIR! whoop whoop

If you are not busy Saturday or Sunday then why don’t you pop down to the Art Bar and take in the sights of the bar’s first ever Art Fair. Co-curated with Yuck ‘n Yum, the fair looks to be an eclectic mix of art and entertainment, boasting live wood carving, mural painting, performances, DJ sets and most importantly Yuck ‘n Yum’s Car Boot Sale!
The Car Boot offers a venue for artists to exhibit and sell their work in a mobile venue bringing local art at affordable prices. Who knows, if it’s successful then maybe the Yuck ‘n Yum car will be popping up in a car park near you!!

    TONIGHT! 03/06/08 – ‘Lurking’

    LURKING

Lurking is presented by the Art Bar in association with Yuck ‘n Yum as part of the Go North festival’s programme of fringe events.

For many years the Art Bar has been a popular drinking destination among Dundee’s community of students and arts professionals. In Lurking, an exhibition curated by local ‘zine Yuck ‘n Yum, five artists stage interventions within these familiar surroundings. Their work can be found here “Lurking”, giving this cosy place a touch of the unhomely, making the recognisable trappings worthy of a second look.

Pete Martin is a painter and sculptor, examining the relationship between humanity and nature. He creates monsters or hybrids of plants, animals and humans. Pete will be wood carving live at The Art Bar Art Fair this weekend!

Gayle Meikle recently graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone with an MSc in Electronic Imaging. Her piece ‘Whisper_1’ is the first instalment of a bigger project loosely derived from the childhood game ‘Chinese Whispers’. Funded by New Media Scotland’s Alt-W Bursary Award Scheme, it investigates language acquisition, communication, manipulation and play, using live audio sampling to chart the life of a phrase; in turn exploring the way in which we use language, our culture and community.

Ben Robinson creates objects and installations that posit a variety of alternative belief systems. The work employs an obscure strategy of camp and deadpan humour to invoke the strange and the marvellous.

Sam Spreckley is currently studying for a Masters degree in Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where he specialises in experimental film and video. Simply put, this work is a collection of experimental visual studies from both natural and man-made worlds created using a combination of digital video and 8mm celluloid film.

Amy Todman makes drawings and objects in a slightly compulsive way. The successful ones are those which she does not fully understand but can still learn from.
After a year in Orkney, Amy is currently back in Glasgow enjoying the city and missing the sea.

Opening Tuesday 3rd June at the art bar, nibbles will be served.
